Fornet de la Soca is no ordinary bakery: it’s a cultural, artisanal, culinary venture that revives forgotten Mallorcan recipes. Located in Palma, in a modernist location with a lot of history, they make bread and pastries from local ingredients, under the Slow Food philosophy and a tireless passion for tradition.
Since 2010, Tomeu Arbona and María José Orero have been running this bakery associated with the traditional flavours of Mallorca. They make ensaïmada, coca breads, cakes and bread with ancient recipes recovered from monasteries, stately homes and popular chefs. In their shops, they revive tradition with seasonal products and additive-free recipes.
Their commitment is twofold: to local culture and to the environment. Everything is made by hand, without industrial processes, using local varieties and products from small producers. There’s no waste at their bakery: everything is sold or donated, and their packaging also speaks of their commitment to sustainability. They offer seasonal products such as Christmas sweet treats, Tortell de Reis (Three Kings’ cake) and Easter specialities. They also host cultural tours explaining their sustainable business model and fight for local food sovereignty.
