A Legacy of Grapevines and Great Wines in the Heart of Mallorca
Llucmajor, one of the first populated areas of Mallorca, has a long history of winegrowing. Since Roman times, this region has been famous for the quality of its wines, compared to the best of the Roman Empire. Bodegas Vi Rei upholds this tradition to this day, making wines that represent the lifeblood of Mallorca’s landscape, with modern techniques and respect for history.
In the heart of Mallorca, Llucmajor has witnessed a winemaking history that dates back to Roman times. The ruins of ancient talayots and villages are evidence of its historical importance, and Bodegas Vi Rei preserves this tradition with an estate located in Sa Bassa Plana.
Here, the vineyards planted since 2012 include native and foreign varieties, cultivated under strict manual standards. Vi Rei's winemaking techniques strike a balance between innovation and respect for the terroir. The grapes are harvested when they reach their prime, and fermentation is carefully controlled to prevent harshness.
The ageing process in French oak barrels and sleepers, followed by bottle ageing, ensures the wines hold a range of aromas and colours. The chalky clay-rich soil and Mediterranean climate, characterised by the sea breeze and hours of sunshine, create the ideal conditions for the vines.
Each bottle of Vi Rei is a tribute to Llucmajor’s deep wine heritage, fusing tradition and modernity to offer a one-of-a-kind food and wine experience. These wines belong to ‘DOP Pla i Llevant’ and ‘Vi de la Terra Mallorca’.
