Karretania
A Journey Through Mallorca’s Native Grape Varieties
Karretània is a modern winery based in Consell, which champions Mallorca’s landscape and history through small-scale organic winemaking using native varieties. The driving force behind this family venture is 'Projecte Terra', which includes fresh, straightforward varietal wines with the ‘DO Vi de la Terra Mallorca’ label.
With their own vineyards in Consell, Santa Maria and Manacor, Karretània is dedicated to the organic cultivation of varieties such as Premsal, Giró, Malvasia, Callet, Manto Negro and Escursac. Each vintage is harvested by hand, with every vinification process carried out separately in small tanks, involving minimal intervention. Karretània's philosophy focuses on light, easy-to-drink wines that reflect the Mediterranean character without losing complexity. The ageing process is gentle and the grapes always take centre stage. Each batch is limited to about 2,000 bottles per variety. As well as wine, they make products such as organic vermouth and olive oil, the latter under the Rodamon brand, from their own olive trees on their land. The whole project revolves around the land and taking care of it. Karretània's top ambition is to remain consistent with their values and ensure the island's identity comes through in their products.
