Mallorcan Almonds: The Taste of the Island
Grup Fruits Secs brings together cooperatives from Mallorca and Ibiza dedicated to the production and sale of almonds and carob. With more than 1,000 members and 6,000 hectares of croplands, this organisation offers certified quality ‘IGP Ametlla de Mallorca’ products. Under a cooperative model, it promotes sustainability and local produce, offering a range of almond products, olive oil, jams and other local products available through its shop.
Since 1989, Grup Fruits Secs has focused on almond and carob production and their efficient marketing. The cooperative receives almonds directly from the farmers and oversees their storage, cleaning and distribution. Under the ‘IGP Ametlla de Mallorca’ label, its almonds are famed for their flavour and nutritional quality, available in varieties such as raw, roasted and ground.
The organisation has also diversified its activity with its own olive oil mill and vegetable production room where olive oil, canned goods and creams are produced. Its local produce shop, opened in 2021, is proof of its commitment to local goods, offering sobrassadas, wine and other products made by the group’s partners. The recent expansion of its facilities, including a new carob processing plant and a photovoltaic plant, reflects its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
