Mater: Organic Production with a Social Soul
Founded in 1964 by the Franciscan Daughters of Mercy religious order, Mater is an organisation that combines organic production with social inclusion. They offer organic eggs and produce while promoting autonomy for people with learning disabilities. With more than 450 professionals and a thousand users, Mater has expanded throughout Mallorca, providing holistic services and sustainable job opportunities.
Mater is a model based on society and a circular economy, where sustainability and environmental respect are fundamental. Their Special Employment Centre creates jobs in areas like organic farming. Every year, they collect and sell more than half a million organic eggs, all reared in Mallorca. Beyond selling produce, Mater offers services such as gardening, catering, education, handicrafts and textiles, helping to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
Their commitment to inclusion and sustainability has made them famous across the island. Mater promotes the autonomy and integration of people with disabilities, creating job opportunities based on sustainability and environmental respect.
