Pere Mas Roig and His Signature Red Wine
Pere Mas Roig makes only one wine, but he does it with soul, tradition and patience. Obra Negra is a tribute to Mallorca’s winemaking tradition, a red wine with its own character that comes from a small vineyard on an old estate in Pla de Mallorca. A product made locally under the ‘Vi de la Terra Mallorca’ label.
The story of Obra Negra doesn’t start in a winery, but in a family. Pere Mas grew up among vines, grape harvests and homemade wines. In 2010 he decided to turn this inherited passion into a professional venture: making his own wine. Thus Obra Negra was born, made in Maria de la Salut with grapes harvested and selected by hand, following traditional methods.
The vineyard is located on the historic Roqueta estate, linked to the conquest of Mallorca in the 13th century. From there, on just half a hectare of fertile land, Pere extracts the essence of this singular red wine with patience and no frills. Together with his wife and father, he’s built a microwinery where each bottle is cared for as if it were the only one.
Obra Negra resonates with residents, curious visitors and local wine enthusiasts alike. No production lines or mass distributors are involved. Just a small-scale producer whose work is based on respect for the environment, age-old knowledge and the desire to do things well.
