Torralbenc, The Soul of Winemaking in Alaior
Bodega Torralbenc rises anew amid the stones and history of Menorca. In Alaior, a traditional farm was turned into a vineyard that now covers 14 hectares, after decades of neglect. Its first wine, from 2016, reflects the effort to turn a barren land into a winegrowing venture. A label that honours the past, from its talayot megalith structure to its Mediterranean spirit.
In the Menorcan countryside, Torralbenc tells the story of a rescued land. On a 77-hectare estate, 14 hectares of which are used as vineyards, this project began in 2005 with the rehabilitation of an abandoned estate. After years of learning how to grow vines on Menorca's chalky soil, which is hard and resistant, it now produces wines under the Vi de la Terra Illes Balears label.
The first Torralbenc wine was released in 2016, the result of more than a decade of work. Each bottle contains the spirit of Menorca: its agriculture, tradition, history and breathtaking nature. Talayotic structures, such as the stone taula on its label, underline its connection with a past that can still be felt in the vineyard.
Surrounded by Mediterranean forests, fields and sea views, Torralbenc has found a balance between innovation and respect for the environment. Dry stone walls, country houses and the archaeological setting make for a complete island wine experience.
