Caragolers de Muro

Farmed Snails: Mallorca’s Oldest Delicacy

In Muro, Jaume Riutort runs a farm dedicated to breeding and raising land snails. At Caragolers de Muro, respect for natural cycles is key: using chemical-free sustainable methods, they sell live or cooked snails at markets and through home delivery. An essential ingredient in traditional Mallorcan cuisine, now also available with a mark of quality and origin.

Caragolers de Muro is one of the few farms specialising in heliciculture in Mallorca. Since 2009, its founder has been committed to raising snails with natural feed, without chemicals and under strict temperature and hygiene conditions. The farm breeds local varieties known as ‘Bover’ snails, which feed on monitored pastures to prevent them from tasting bitter.

The rearing cycle is up to 12 months, guaranteeing tasty, consistent meat. The snails are sold live and cleaned or pre-cooked following traditional recipes. They can be found in markets such as Pere Garau, Inca and Manacor, and they also offer home delivery.

The farm also offers guided tours, where you can learn about the whole process and understand the important role of snail farming in local cuisine and culture. Caragolers de Muro keeps a tradition alive that’s part of the culinary DNA of the Balearic Islands.
