Can Piol is Georg Bräutigam’s venture in Vilafranca de Bonany. As a cultivator, livestock farmer and advocate of organic production, he works the land and raises animals using sustainable methods. On his 11-hectare farm, he produces grass-fed beef, eggs from Mallorcan hens and the tastiest local vegetables.
At Can Piol, all food is the result of a clear philosophy: respect for natural cycles. Menorcan cows live outdoors all year round, feeding only on grass. The resulting meat is rich in omega-3 and CLA, with a rich, natural flavour. The hens graze behind the cattle, which enriches the soil and achieves golden-yolked eggs.
The farm also grows organic vegetables that vary depending on the season, including tomatoes, aubergines, artichokes, broccoli rabe, mizuna, beetroot and local peppers such as Tap de Cortí. Everything is grown in soil enriched with the farm’s own compost, without fertilisers or greenhouses. Bees also have a role to play: they ensure pollination and provide honey.
Their products are sold directly on the farm upon request, and through organic retailers in Palma. Can Piol isn’t just about production; it’s an example of permaculture applied to farmland in Mallorca.
