Fet a Son Garrova

Fet a Son Garrova: Country Flavour with Principles

In the Llevant mountain range, among pastures and terraces, you'll find Fet a Son Garrova, a small family cheese factory where every cheese has a story to tell. María and Pedro turn the milk from their own goats and sheep into unique blocks, including fresh, curado (mature), brossat (whey cheese) and cream cheese. Since 2018, they have been innovating while upholding their origins and traditions.

What started with a single goat to clean the marjades (terraces) has become one of the most original cheese factories in Mallorca. At Fet a Son Garrova, Pedro Soler and María Tortella look after 70 goats and 70 sheep as part of an extensive farming project. Every day they milk their animals, make each block by hand and turn the moulds when they need turning, even in the early hours of the morning.

They work with breeds such as Saanen, Murcia-Granada and Assaf, chosen for their balance between quantity and quality. This results in fresh unsalted cheeses, curds, spreadable creams and aged cheeses with natural rinds, some with squid ink, basil or saffron. They also make soft yoghurts and brossat, a whey cheese that's perfect for athletes.

At Fet a Son Garrova, they've got the entire process covered: they grow the fodder, raise the animals, process the milk and sell it at markets and fairs in the Balearic Islands. They are totally committed to local produce and direct customer service. Therefore, they don't work with distributors, but the buyer talks directly to the producer, and this is clear in every bite.
