Explore the Camí d'en Kane and you’ll see the most authentic side of Menorca. This historic route, which today links Maó to Es Mercadal, stands out for its natural beauty and delicious Menorcan food available along the way. Ideal for driving or cycling, you can stop off at cheese dairies, markets and pastry shops where you can enjoy local produce.
The Camí d'en Kane, built in the 18th century under the orders of the governor, Sir Richard Kane, was designed to improve communication and trade on the island during the British occupation. The construction of the main road led to the gradual loss of this path. Today, you can only travel along the section between Maó and Es Mercadal.
Along the route there are lots of places where you can enjoy Menorcan cuisine. You can immerse yourself in the countryside by booking experiences in advance at country estates such as Binillubet or S'Aranjassa. Here, you can take part in cheese workshops, taste cured meats or tour an old country house, leaving you with memories to last a lifetime.
Along the way, we can also find bakeries and pastry shops that reveal the sweet side of Menorca. In Es Mercadal, Cas Sucrer and Can Pons are two examples we can find. Can Sintes and Ca Na Maru are two other options available in Alaior. These two villages also have weekly food markets where you can try excellent local products. The combination of history, nature and great food makes the Camí d'en Kane route a truly unique experience.
