Santa Eulària Celebrates its Fishing Tradition during the Fira des Gerret
Every year, Santa Eulària hosts the Fira des Gerret, an event that honours a sardine-like fish that is central to Ibizan cuisine. In a festive atmosphere, the fair brings together restaurants, fishermen and fair-goers, offering a wide variety of tapas made with the fish gerret. Beyond food, the event also features a craft market, competitions, children’s activities and musical performances that fill the local streets with flavour and tradition.
Santa Eulària becomes the seafood capital with the Fira des Gerret, a fair that celebrates the many ways of enjoying this much-loved fish in Ibiza. The day begins with the arrival of the fishing boats, known as llaüts, bringing fresh gerret, followed by the traditional brulada de corns (conch blowing) and the ball pagès folk dance performance, marking the start of the event.
In the streets of Sant Jaume and Plaça d'Espanya, local restaurants offer their best gerret recipes, from rice dishes to creative tapas recipes, while fair-goers enjoy live music and a lively atmosphere. There’s also a craft market and activities for children, making this fair the perfect event for the whole family.
With the involvement of the fishermen’s guilds of Ibiza and Sant Antoni, together with food associations and local organisations, the Fira des Gerret is a food fair that celebrates the culture, tradition and taste of the sea in Ibiza.
