In the south of Formentera, Cap de Barbaria grows vines overlooking the Mediterranean Sea to create unique wines under the Vi de la Terra Formentera label. With varieties such as Monastrell, Fogoneu, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, their labels achieve a connection with the island and its rich chalky and stony terroir.
Since 2000, Cap de Barbaria has been harnessing sandy and stony soils, a dry climate and the sea breeze to make red wines with the authentic taste of Formentera. Monastrell and Fogoneu add Mediterranean character, while Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon provide balanced nuances with a refined structure.
Two of its finest wines are ‘Cap de Barbaria’, aged in French and American oak barrels, and the younger, more vibrant ‘Ophiusa’. Both are renowned for their saline and iodine hints, resulting from a unique terroir. There’s also ‘Pansit’, a sweet wine made from sun-dried grapes offering a unique experience. The winery hosts guided tours of the vineyards and wine tastings.
Cap de Barbaria not only produces quality wines, but also celebrates sustainability and promotes local products, underlining its commitment to the island.
