Since 1880, Familia Marí Mayans has been making liqueurs using traditional recipes based on its knowledge of aromatic plants in Ibiza and Formentera. Its Herbes Eivissenques, with a Protected Geographical Indication (IGP), is made using a traditional process that captures the Mediterranean character. The combination of tradition and innovation has taken these liqueurs across borders, available in pubs, restaurants and cocktail bars all over the world.
The story of Familia Marí Mayans, a Balearic family business, begins in 1880 in Formentera, when Juan Marí Mayans began to distil liqueurs, making use of the properties found in local herbs. Over time, its recipe became the basis for ‘IGP Herbes Eivissenques’, made with fennel, thyme, rosemary, lemon verbena and other ingredients. This traditional liqueur is a staple in Ibiza’s food culture.
Today, the distillery remains committed to quality, fusing artisanal methods with innovation. It also produces Frígola, IBZ Gin and a gourmet line of selected products. Original handwritten recipes are still used in order to extract as much flavour as possible from each plant.
Today, Herbes Eivissenques by Familia Marí Mayans is a classic after-dinner drink, and has made it big on the international cocktail scene. Every sip captures the flavour and spirit of the islands.
