In the neighbourhood of Santa Catalina, the municipal market has become a favourite for locals and visitors looking for fresh, quality produce. In the morning on Monday to Saturday, more than 50 stalls come together to offer fish, seafood, choice cuts of meat, seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, cured sausages and local specialities. It also has tapas bars and food spots where you can enjoy freshly-made dishes in a cosmopolitan setting.
Located in the fishing neighbourhood of Santa Catalina, this market is the oldest in Palma and still retains its original identity: a place where tradition and local produce come together in a lively atmosphere. From the early hours of the morning, its walkways are bustling with regular customers, chefs and tourists looking for fresh ingredients and specialities from Balearic cuisine.
The market offers a range of products difficult to find elsewhere: freshly-caught fish and seafood, meat from local producers, seasonal fruit and vegetables, pickled foods, olives and a carefully selected range of wine and cheese. Its specialities include sobrassada, classic cheeses from the island and the traditional pastry ensaïmada.
Beyond traditional shopping, Mercat de Santa Catalina is also a great spot for a bite to eat. Its bars and food stalls offer tapas and dishes made using the same fresh ingredients sold at the produce counters. The market also hosts cooking workshops and an outdoor clothing market on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
With shops open from 7am to 3pm and restaurants until 5pm, Santa Catalina remains a symbol of Palma’s way of life, where tradition lives in harmony with modernity in a setting that breathes history and authenticity.
