Artà and Its Market: Colours, Flavours and Mallorcan Handicrafts
Every Tuesday, from 9am to 2pm, Mercat d'Artà transforms the town centre into a vibrant shopping destination. With more than 300 stalls in Plaça del Conqueridor and neighbouring streets, it offers fresh produce, cured sausages, cheese, handicrafts and fashion items. There’s also an indoor market providing quality local produce all year round.
Located in the centre of Artà, this market is one of the most famous on the island. Throughout its pedestrian-only streets you can find seasonal fruit and vegetables, cured sausages such as Mallorcan sobrassada, artisan cheese, local wine and oil. There’s also a range of footwear, fabrics and typical Mallorcan pottery.
Beyond being a great place for shopping, the market is also a gathering place. Cafés and bars offer outdoor seating where you can soak up the atmosphere with a view of Santuari de Sant Salvador, an ancient religious building overlooking the town. During the summer months, there’s also a craft market in the Na Batlessa gardens, making the experience even more wonderful.
Due to its prime location, visiting Mercat d’Artà is the perfect way to discover local tradition, culture and food, before spending the rest of the day exploring nearby beaches or the Parc Natural de Llevant.
