Fira de la Llampuga: The Seafood Festival in Cala Ratjada
On the second weekend of October, the Port of Cala Ratjada is filled with flavour thanks to the Fira de la Llampuga, a must-visit food event for fish lovers. With more than 2,000 kg of llampuga (common dolphinfish) caught by local fishermen, the fair offers the chance to try this blue fish in a range of dishes, from the classic noodle dish fideuà to hamburgers and croquettes. With live music, a craft market and tapas competitions, this is one of the most important events on Mallorca’s culinary calendar.
Every year, the Fira de la Llampuga (Llampuga Fish Fair) brings together chefs, restaurants, fishermen and visitors to the picturesque Port of Cala Ratjada, making it one of the most anticipated food fairs on the island. In a seaside setting, fair-goers can try 25 different dishes featuring llampuga, an oily fish typically found off the Mallorcan coast. Also known as the common dolphinfish, it is usually in season from the end of summer.
As well as food, there’s also a local craft and trade market, concerts, food competitions and the chance to go aboard traditional fishing boats to see llampuga fishing firsthand.
For first-time visitors, the fair is also the perfect excuse to tour the medieval Capdepera Castle and take in the breathtaking views of the Mallorca’s coastline. Combining tradition, flavour and entertainment, the Fira de la Llampuga continues to grow as a unique event that celebrates the sea and its cuisine in the best Mediterranean setting.
