Formentera’s Remarkable Wines

Discover Cap de Barbaria and Terramoll, the island's wineries

It’s often a surprise to many that Formentera produces its own wine. The smaller Pityusic island is home to two wineries: Cap de Barbaria and Terramoll. Both wineries offer tours. Despite the low level of rainfall on the island, they produce a highly original wine of remarkable quality.

Formentera has a long history of making wine for household consumption. It's even mentioned in a document that dates back to the 13th century. This is also one of the few areas that has never suffered from phylloxera. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the production and distribution of wine that never fails to capture the spirit of the sea nearby.

Bodega Cap de Barbaria, located near Sant Francesc, was founded in 2000 and works with varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Monastrell and Fogoneu. Guided tours and tastings at Cap de Barbaria allow visitors to get up close and personal with the traditional production process and taste wines that truly reflect Formentera's terroir.

On the La Mola plateau is Bodega Terramoll, also founded in 2000. With 12 hectares of vineyards producing grapes such as Monastrell, Merlot, Syrah and Viognier, Terramoll is dedicated to organic farming. Tastings at Terramoll, which include walks through the vineyards and tours of the winery, make an unmissable wine experience for those looking to learn more about the sustainability and quality of Formentera's wines.
