Mercat Vell: Ibiza Town's Most Iconic Market Since 1872
Built in 1872, Mercat Vell (Old Market), is Ibiza Town’s most iconic traditional market. Located in the square of Plaça de la Constitució, opposite the Portal de ses Taules, it remains a top spot for both tourists and locals to find fruit, vegetables, flowers and organic produce. Surrounded by shops and outdoor bars, this old market remains the lifeblood of the La Marina neighbourhood.
Mercat Vell, with its neoclassical-inspired structure in the shape of a Greek temple, has been a hub for farmers travelling from the countryside to sell their produce since the 19th century. Today, its stalls offer fresh vegetables, flowers and organic produce, as well as small craft and jewellery stalls on summer evenings.
Located in a square that was pedestrianised in the 90s, it is surrounded by bars and cafés with a lively atmosphere all day long. Especially iconic is the tuna sandwich and pickled foods stand, which has been in the same spot for more than half a century, now a classic local gem.
Located in the heart of the La Marina district, Mercat Vell is still a symbol of Ibizan life, where history, shopping and culture come together in a unique setting.
