The Mercat des Peix (Fish Market) in Ciutadella, open every day from 9am to 1:30pm, is one of the most popular, most authentic places in the city. Located in the square of Plaça de la Llibertat, it’s one of the best markets selling fresh fish and seafood, cured sausages, cheese and produce from Menorca’s market gardens. Its historic charm and lively atmosphere make it a must for locals and tourists alike.
The Mercat des Peix, built in the 19th century and renovated in 2011, is the only remaining example of iron architecture in Menorca. Surrounded by butchers and shops selling local produce, it’s the culinary heart of Ciutadella. Here you can find fresh fish and seafood, together with cheese, cured sausages and vegetables from the island.
The market is not only a place to do some shopping, but also a great meeting spot. Around the square, bars and restaurants invite you to enjoy the tardeo, an afternoon tradition that includes tapas, vermouth and live music.
