A journey through the scenic countryside with classic flavours
The Ruta Verde 15 is an experience for the senses, combining the natural beauty of Formentera with its tasty traditional food. From the fresh produce at Mercat Pagés to the dishes made at Es Caló de Sant Agustí, every step and every mouthful tells a story. The route features beautiful stone walls, taking us through rural landscapes overlooked by ancient fig trees.
We begin our adventure at the Mercat Pagés de Sant Francesc Xavier, where fresh local produce welcomes us. Here we can find freshly-harvested produce from the island’s farmers. From here, we begin the route along the Ruta Verde 15 that reaches La Mola.
Along the way, rural landscapes unfold, with fig trees that are particularly stunning. One of the most impressive is Na Blanca d'en Mestre, a hundred-year-old fig tree with a crown spanning 20 metres wide. For a long time, dried figs were a staple product in the diet of the people in Formentera. Today, they are highly appreciated for their strong flavour.
In Es Caló de Sant Agustí, weather permitting, we can enjoy a wonderful dip in the sea. Once out of the water, there’s nothing better than enjoying the food of Formentera in restaurants such as Can Rafelet, specialising in authentic seafood dishes, or Can Pasqual, where modern techniques revamp the flavours of traditional cuisine.
